Cicely Tyson is known for her performance in several TV shows and movies, including The Help and Fried Green Tomatoes. Her career started in the modeling industry after she got discovered for an Ebony magazine for her gorgeous looks. She also appeared in small starrers in off-Broadway and feature films. The movie Sounder won her a nomination for the best actress category in Academy awards.
Cicely has always chosen roles that depicted strong and positive black women winning an honorary Oscar. Hence, she refused a lot of roles in her career. In 2016, Tyson was awarded the Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama in Washington.
