Harry Belafonte is amongst the most famous and successful Jamaican-American pop stars. Being called the King of Calypso, he made the Caribbean music style mainstream in the industry. His songs like Jump in the Line and The Banana Boat Song topped the charts with the peppy and lively music.
Belafonte made his acting debut with Broadway and also won a Tony award for his performance. He also used his fame to be an activist throughout his career for several political and social causes. Thus, receiving the prestigious award of National Medal of Arts. His most recent work was in 2006 in Booby.
